Picture Piecing Techniques, Cynthia England

May 18, Cynthia England will be present!  Her lecture beginning at 9:30 AM will be an "entertaining slide presentation showing the process of making pictorial quilts using Cynthia's Picture Piecing technique.”  This is a unique technique that Cynthia developed to achieve detailed quilt imagery. While similar to these techniques in that it uses paper and straight seams, Picture Piecing has several differences, allowing quilters to achieve detailed imagery more efficiently, with less frustration and fabric waste.

Then in the afternoon on the 18th, beginning at 1:00 PM, Cynthia's workshop will be Picture Piecing. This workshop will provide you with feeling comfortable designing your own projects using her technique. It will give you opportunities to explore techniques of breaking up a design for machine construction.  She will also be discussing color selection and shadow placement during this time.  Workshop fee payable to PPQG is $30.00.  There is an additional $15.00 material fee payable to Cynthia.  On May 19, her full day workshop provides you with the choice of creating the beautiful Blue Heron or the majestic Tranquil Lake.  The workshop fee is $55.00 payable to PPQG.  There is an additional $37.00 kit fee payable to Cynthia.  Sign up during the March or April meetings.

The Art of Color Blending, Gyleen Fitzgerald

June provides us with warmer weather and Gyleen Fitzgerald.  Her lecture will be The Art of Color Blending on June 15 at 9:30 AM.  This is your opportunity to "explore what the mind sees but the eyes can not."  She'll show us how fabric colors can be used successfully into one quilt whether there are 50 fabrics or 20 fabrics.  Gyleen quilts blend color, p a t t e r n , a n d t e x t u r e t o p r o v i d e a contemporary essence in traditional quilting. An avid quilter, Gyleen has earned Best of Show honors and as a publisher, she is a Gold Medal winner for Quilts:  Unfinished Stories with New Beginnings.  She is best known for inspiring Trash to Treasure Pineapple Quilts.

The half day class, June 15, will be Color Knots, which is displayed behind her in the photo. If you enjoy modern or contemporary this might be the perfect half day class for you. It is quick and easy.  A fun weekend project.  This quilt makes a bold or serene statement depending on your color choice.  One skill to add to your tool box is that you'll learn to color balance as you make each Color Knot block.  This project is fat quarter friendly or use 10" pre cut

squares.  Cost for the class is $30.00.  Pattern is $10.00 and Polyfon3 tool is $15.00, both payable to Gyleen.

This quilt was Gyleen's 2017 Iron Quilt Challenge design.  She will teach us the raw edge technique to achieve perfect "stress-free' curves without piecing.  Also experiment with different layouts to produce a unique design.  Cost for class is $55.00, pattern is $12.00.  Sign up at the program table during the May meeting or email ppqg1vp@gmail.com.
